I, JOHN O'DONOGHUE, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments Act, 1998 (No. 52 of 1998), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments Act, 1998 (Commencement) Order, 1999.

2. The 1st day of December, 1999, is hereby fixed as the day on which the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments Act, 1998 (No. 52 of 1998), shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order fixes 1 December 1999 as the date on which the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments Act, 1998 comes into operation.

On that date the 1996 Convention on the Accession of Austria, Finland and Sweden to the Convention on Jurisdiction and Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters and the Protocol on its interpretation (both as amended by the 1978 Convention of Accession of Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom, the 1982 Convention of Accession of Greece and the 1989 Convention of the Accession of Spain and Portugal) will enter into force.
