Suspension of member - Requirements of natural justice - Claim to damages by member improperly suspended.

The plaintiff was at all material times a member of St. Patrick's Club, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry, of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The defendant was a member and honorary secretary of the North Kerry Board of the Association and was sued in that capacity on his own behalf and on behalf of all other members of the North Kerry Board, pursuant to Order 6, rule 10 of the Rules of the Circuit Court, 1950. Arising out of incidents at football matches which it was alleged were instigated by the plaintiff, the North Kerry Board (to which the Ballybunion Club was affiliated) purported to suspend the plaintiff. The plaintiff alleged that he had never been notified of the meeting at which he was suspended, nor of the alleged offences with which he was charged nor was he given an opportunity of being heard in his own defence.
