Aslan frontman Christy Dignam hails 'brave' Bono for opening up about half-brother

On Sunday, the U2 legend revealed during an interview on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs how his father Bob had a secret affair with another woman

The rocker, 62, only discovered he had a half-brother 22 years ago.

Yesterday, Christy praised his famous pal for opening up about his family struggles – saying he didn't need to.

He added: "I didn't know. I only found out when I read the story.

"Things like that, like I think it's great what they do with the humanitarian stuff but they are very private people and that's a very private thing.

"I was even surprised he came out with it because usually he keeps that stuff under wraps.

"We look across the street and we think everyone else is doing better than us.

"Everybody has their problems."

Aslan feature in This Is For Ukraine, airing tonight on Virgin Media One.

It follows the band as they work with the Irish Red Cross to bring together members of the Ukrainian community in Ireland to record a charity single to support the people and country in their time of need.
