The respondent company suffered from a world wide recession in the semi-conductor sector which resulted in having to make 90 employees redundant. the claimant was among these and the terms for same were set out in employees written terms & conditions of employment. The claimant was informed that he was likely to be made redundant by letter and subsequently another letter confirming this and information on redundancy payments. Claimant claimed that selection process was unfair and there were alternative positions within the company that he could have been offered.
