Competition Authority clears Smurfit Ireland and

Lithographic Universal printing joint venture

The Competition Authority today (24th July 2003) announced its

determination that the proposed joint venture between Smurfit Ireland

Limited and Lithographic Universal Limited can proceed.

The Competition Authority, in accordance with Section 21(2) of the

Competition Act 2002, has determined that, in its opinion, the result of

the proposed joint venture will not substantially lessen competition in

markets for goods or services in the State and accordingly, that the joint

venture may be put into effect.
