Determination No. M/04/022 of the Competition Authority, dated 14th May 2004,
Notification No. M/04/022 – Proposed acquisition by Falck Danmark A/S of
Global Safety Group BV
Introduction
of the Competition Act, 2002 (“the Act”) was notified, on a mandatory basis, of a
proposal whereby Falck Danmark A/S, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Group 4
Falck A/S (G4F) would acquire all the issued shares of Global Safety Group BV
(GSG).
The Parties
2. G4F is one of the world’s largest security services providers consisting of alarm,
guarding and cash delivery services. It also provides rescue and safety services,
including ambulance services, patient transportation, fire services, rescue services
and risk management services. G4F’s Irish activities encompass alarm, guarding
and security support services. In Ireland it is not active in rescue and safety
services.
3. GSG is active throughout the world in risk management and safety and
contingency training. It specialises in off-shore oil and gas, maritime and
petrochemical industries. In Ireland GSG provides training in various safety
techniques such as fire fighting, sea survival and evacuation and helicopter
underwater escape.
Analysis
4. There is no overlap in the parties’ activities in Ireland and therefore the
transaction does not give rise to competition concerns in the State.
