I, ALAN SHATTER, Minister for Justice and Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Prisons Act 1970 (No. 11 of 1970) (as adapted by the Justice and Law Reform (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 138 of 2011 )), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Detention of Offenders (Wheatfield Place of Detention) Regulations 2013.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on 19 December 2013.

2. In these Regulations "Wheatfield Place of Detention" means the place to be known as Wheatfield Place of Detention situate at Cloverhill Road, Clondalkin, in the county of Dublin, being a place provided by the Minister for Justice and Equality under section 2 of the Prisons Act 1970 (No. 11 of 1970).

3. Male persons who, at the time of their transfer to Wheatfield Place of Detention, are not less than 17 years of age may be detained therein.

4. These Regulations shall not affect the operation of the Prison Rules 2007 ( S.I. No. 252 of 2007 ) insofar as those Rules apply to Wheatfield Place of Detention.

5. The Detention of Offenders (Wheatfield) Regulations 1989 ( S.I. No. 135 of 1989 ) and the Detention of Offenders (Wheatfield) Regulations 1990 ( S.I. No. 218 of 1990 ) are hereby revoked.
