Donabate residents slam 'outrageous' development plans lodged for over 1,000 homes

Aledo Donabate Ltd is seeking planning permission under Strategic Housing Development (SHD) legislation which requires planning applications of more than 100 homes to be dealt with directly by An Bord Pleanála, skipping the consideration of local council planners.

The development is planned for a 27.3 hectare site to the north of the Donabate Distributor Road where the housing will be centred as well as a planned Nature Park of 13 hectares to the south of the same road.

The planning application also includes local road improvements and landscaping works on Main Street and along the Donabate Distributor Road.

The 1,365 housing units include 194 one-bed apartments including 40 sheltered accommodation units, 473 two-bed apartments, 166, three-bed apartments in duplex and triplex format, nine two-bed houses, 206 three-bed houses and 131 four-bed houses.

The proposed development will also have three childcare facilities on site with a combined capacity for 297 children.

However, Fianna Fail Councillor Adrian Henchy said that he has very serious concerns and reservations about the "enormous" development.
