A member of the Garda Siochana who had spent only three years in the force applied for permission to marry. It is a rule of the force that a member usually does not receive permission to marry unless he has completed five years. In order to obtain the required permission he agreed to relinquish his rights to rent allowance to which he would on marriage be entitled under the Garda Siochana Allowance Order, 1926.
