Dublin areas with the highest burglary rates as city stats jump up 20%

There were 3,111 burglaries reported to the gardai this year which is an increase of 21% compared to the same time period last year when there were 2,579. The Joint Policing Committee Report to Dublin City Council showed that most crime rates had increased since this time last year

Assistant Commissioner for the Dublin Metropolitan Region Angela Willis said the increase was "not unexpected" due to COVID-19 restrictions being in place for much of 2021. This is especially true for burglaries as many people spent most of their time in their home.

The region with the most burglaries was Dublin South Central which stretches from Sandymount to Inchicore and also includes UCD's sprawling campus. There have been 636 burglaries in this area so far this year - up 24% on last year's 512.

The West area had the second highest burglary rate with 620 reports this year which is an increase of 84 on last year. This area includes Blanchardstown, Finglas, Clondalkin and Saggart.
