Foreword
FOREWORD
MR.
JUSTICE
BRIAN
WALSH*
I
have
been
honoured
by the
invitation
to
contribute
a
foreword
to
this
excellent
publication.
The
wide-ranging
scope
and
topicality
of
its
articles
are
most
impressive.
They
will
reveal
to
lawyer
and
layman
alike
that
the law
student
of
today
is
obliged
to
acquire
a
knowledge
of
law
that
goes
far
beyond
the
traditional
law
school
studies.
Not
only
must
he be
conversant
with
the
ability
of
the
citizen
to
engage
the
executive and
the
legislature
in the
observance
of
the
Constitution
in
the
exercise
of
their policies
and
powers
of
government, but
he
must
also
be
familiar
with
the
intricacies
of
our
rapidly
changing
jurisprudence
concerning
matrimonial
affairs.
Membership
of
the
European Union
or
the
United
Nations
does
not
permit
a
plea
of
ignorance
where
interstate
relations bear upon
what
many
persons
may
feel to
be
purely
local
or
private issues
or
even
personal
expansion.
The
asylum
seeker or
the
immigrant
must
be
seen
as
a
neighbour
to
whom
we
owe
duties
which
outweigh
purely
selfish
interests. Ireland
is
now
an
island
only
in
geographical terms
and
readers
of
the
Trinity
College
Law
Review
will
be
assured by
the
content
of
this
current
number
that
our
law
students
are
not only
well
versed
in
these
important
issues but
can also
explain them
with
a
clarity
which
reflects
careful
study
and
thorough research.
I
recommend
the
Trinity
College
Law
Review
to
every
student
of
the
law
and
to
every
enquiring
citizen. I
offer
my
warmest
congratulations
to
the
Dublin University
Law
Society
for
this
valuable
and
substantial
contribution
to
essential
knowledge.
