Unfair Dismissal - Assembly operation - Part-time workers - Dispute on circumstances of job loss

The employer introduced a change in their assembly operation. One of their clients lost a contract and affected their business. The employees who reported for work on 11 November 1998 were kept waiting around. When they reported on the 12th they were told there was no work that day for them. Later they were informed they were being let go as they were only part-time workers. The claimant offered to go onto a basic wage or be paid by the hour but the employer rejected this.
