Introduction

I am delighted to introduce the second edition of the Irish Judicial Studies Journal for

2019. This is a bi-lingual edition; Vol 3(2) is in English and Vol 3(3) is in French. The

articles comprise papers given at the Franco-British-Irish Judicial Cooperation Committee

Colloque in London this year. This is the second time the Journal has published papers

from the Colloque and this time, the subject matter concerns slavery. The articles examine

both the forms of legal redress available, the nature of legal prohibitions against slavery and

the sociological impetus that enables this hidden but very serious problem.

I would like to thank our editorial team at the University of Limerick, as well as our copy-

editor – Lucy Davis, our copy-writer – Bríana Walsh, Kevin Saude who assisted with the

translations, and all of the authors who contributed to this edition.

Introduction

C’est un plaisir de présenter la seconde édition du Journal D’études Judiciaires Irlandaises

pour l’année 2019. Cette édition est bilingue; Vol 3(2) est en Anglais et Vol (3(3) est en

Français. Ces articles comprennent des travaux présentés cette année à Londres lors d’un

colloque du comité Franco-Brittanique-Irlandais de coopération judiciaire. C’est la seconde

fois que le journal publie des papiers du colloque, et ils concernent dans ce numéro le sujet

de l’esclavage. Les articles qui suivent examinent d’une part les formes de recours juridiques

disponibles, et la nature des interdictions légales de l’esclavage, et d’autre part, l’impulsion

sociologique permettant à cet occulte mais très sérieux problème d’émerger.

Je voudrais remercier notre équipe éditoriale à l’Université de Limerick, notre correctrice –

Lucy Davis, notre rédactrice – Bríana Walsh, Kévin Saudé pour son aide avec la traduction,

et tous les auteurs ayant contribué à cette édition.
