Ireland's emergency calls service outage affects hundreds

Nearly 230 callers were affected by the disruption after the 999 and 112 services were down for over an hour. The Department of Environment, Climate, and Communications was informed of the outage by BT Communications Ireland Ltd this morning

They told the department that the Emergency Call Answering Service couldn't take calls from 1am to 2.15am. However, gardai subsequently followed up with those who were affected by the outage.

A spokesperson for Department of Environment, Climate, and Communications said: "Minister Ossian Smyth, who has been briefed on the outage, said the Department has now sought a detailed and comprehensive report from BTCIL on the incident.
