ITV confirms This Morning will return on Monday amid Phillip Schofield drama

ITV 's chief is said to believe it has been "tarnished beyond repair" after Phillip Schofield admitted he lied about a relationship with a younger male colleague. In a statement, ITV said: "This Morning will be back on Monday

Meanwhile, Holly Willoughby broke her silence over her former co-host, and she went on to describe Phillip's behaviour as "hurtful" in her brief statement. Holly wrote on Instagram yesterday: "It's taken time to process yesterday's news. When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not."

Her former co-presenter Phillip resigned from his historic career with ITV on Friday after admitting to a relationship with a 'much younger' male staffer, also employed by ITV. Phillip previously stood down from his role as This Morning host prior to confessing his relationship.

It comes after ITV bosses insisted in a statement they had probed reports of a relationship between Schofield, 61, and an ex-colleague in his 20s but were lied to by both.

They also said multiple staff members failed to provide evidence of the affair "beyond hearsay and rumour". So they took no further action. Now, well-placed sources behind the scenes say ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall's job could be under threat.
