Met Eireann forecasts heavy showers for Dublin but expert pinpoints when heat spell will hit

Summer weather is set to return as high pressure will build next week bringing scorching temperatures and dry conditions, Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather confirmed. He said: "The only way is UP! Even more confidence on weather models this evening for high pressure next week and possibly warming up nicely too."

Today will start off dry with sunny spells but the afternoon will bring showers which will become heavier and more frequent through the evening. Temperatures will be around 17 or 18 degrees.

Tonight will be clear with some showers at first but it will be cloudier as the night goes on with some spells of rain. Temperatures will be around 8 or 10 degrees.

Tomorrow morning will be cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain which will clear during the morning. The rest of the day will see showers and sunny spells with the highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Showers will become more isolated overnight. Cloud will build from the west with patchy drizzle developing on western and northwest coasts by morning. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light west to southwest breezes.
