METROLOGY ACT, 1996 (COMMENCEMENT AND ESTABLISHMENT DAY) ORDER, 1997

I, PAT RABBITTE, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 1 (2) and 7 (1) of the Metrology Act, 1996 (No. 27 of 1996), and the Enterprise and Employment (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order, 1996 ( S.I. No. 350 of 1996 ), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Metrology Act, 1996 (Commencement and Establishment Day) Order, 1997. 2. The 12th day of May, 1997, is hereby appointed as the day—

( a ) on which the Metrology Act, 1996 (No. 27 of 1996), shall come into operation, and

( b ) to be the establishment day for the purpose of Part II of that Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order provides that the Metrology Act, 1996 , will come into force and that the Legal Metrology Service be established on 12th May, 1997.
