A local authority which has entered into the possession or receipt of the rents and profits of lands compulsorily acquired under the provisions of the Unemployment (Relief Works) Act, 1940, and which has become liable to pay interest under s. 15 of the said Act is liable for the payment of interest on the unpaid balance of the compensation fixed in respect of such lands in accordance with the ordinary law of vendor and purchaser.
