Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, SHANE ROSS, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 6 (2) of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 2018 (No. 18 of 2018), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 2018 (Commencement) Order 2018.

2. The 26th day of October 2018 is appointed as the day on which sections 2 , 3 and 6 of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 2018 (No. 18 of 2018) come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This order brings into effect, from 26 October 2018, certain provisions of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 2018 . The principal effect of the provisions in question is that drivers who currently receive 3 penalty points for certain drink driving offences will in future receive a 3-month driving disqualification instead. The provisions commenced will also make a number of corrections to legislative cross-references.
