The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 18 of the Road Traffic Act 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No 141 of 2011 )), hereby makes the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Courses of Instruction) (Motorcycles) (Extension of Period of Validity of Certificate) Regulations 2020.

2. In these Regulations -

“Regulations of 2011” means the Road Traffic (Courses of Instruction) (Motorcycles) Regulations 2011 ( S.I. No. 681 of 2011 );

“IBT certificate” has the same meaning that it has in the Regulations of 2011.

3. Notwithstanding Regulation 9 of, and Schedule 2 (inserted by Regulation 2(i) of the Road Traffic (Courses of Instruction) (Motorcycles) (Amendment) Regulations 2018 ( S.I. No. 433 of 2018 )) to, the Regulations of 2011, an IBT certificate issued during the period beginning on 1 March 2018 and ending on 30 June 2018 is valid for a period of 2 years and 4 months from the date of issue.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Courses of Instruction) (Motorcycles) Regulations 2011 ( S.I. No. 681 of 2011 ) to provide that a certificate of satisfactory completion of initial basic training for motorcyclists, an IBT certificate, issued during the period beginning on 1 March 2018 and ending on 30 June 2018 is valid for a period of 2 years and 4 months from the date of issue.
