COVID-19

The attention of parties and practitioners is drawn to a new practice direction SC 21 (https://beta.courts.ie/content/conduct-proceedings-supreme-court-covid-19) which is intended to apply during the continuance of any special measures or guidance adopted by the government to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new Practice Direction facilitates the continuing work of the Court and, in particular, provides guidance concerning the conduct of remote case management and appeal hearings. Practitioners should familiarise themselves with the detail of its provisions and with other guidance when issued under its provisions. The Court is considering both how to identify and deal with urgent cases so as to avoid physical hearings if possible. If it is considered that an adjourned case is urgent the Court will consider granting it priority. Parties who contend such urgency should set out their reasons in writing by email addressed to the Registrar at supremecourt@courts.ie.
