LEGALLY BINDING DECISION OF THE FINANCIAL SERVICES AND PENSIONS OMBUDSMAN
This complaint relates to a travel insurance policy and cover for flight cancellation.
The Complainant’s Case
The Complainant submits that flights for two adults and two children were purchased on 6
January 2020 with an airline for €1,408.92 (one thousand, four hundred and eight euro
and ninety two cents). The Complainant submits the intended date of travel was from 15
July 2020 to 29 July 2020.
The Complainant states that travel insurance was purchased on 14 March 2020.
The Complainant states that the flights with the airline had been cancelled for the summer
period due to Covid 19, with service resuming on 1 July 2020.
The Complainant states that due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the Irish Government's
continued advice not to travel, she deemed it best not to travel to her holiday destination.
She states that the claim under the policy was passed by the Provider to another entity
(the “Claim Handler”). The Complainant submits the Claim Handler rejected the claim
under the policy and the Complainant submitted a formal complaint, which was logged on
18 August 2020.
