SOCIAL WELFARE (VARIATION OF RATES OF PAYMENTS) REGULATIONS, 1976.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and section 16 of the Social Welfare Act, 1975 (No. 1 of 1975), hereby makes the following Regulations—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Variation of Rates of Payments) Regulations, 1976.

2. In these Regulations—

"the Act of 1935" means the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1935 (No. 29 of 1935);

"the Act of 1952" means the Social Welfare Act, 1952 ;

"the Act of 1966" means the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Act, 1966 (No. 16 of 1966);

"the Act of 1969" means the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1969 (No. 19 of 1969);

"the Act of 1970" means the Social Welfare Act, 1970 (No. 12 of 1970);

"the Act of 1973" means the Social Welfare Act, 1973 (No. 10 of 1973);

"the Act of 1974" means the Social Welfare (No. 2) Act, 1974 (No. 14 of 1974);

"the Act of 1976" means the Social Welfare Act, 1976 (No. 6 of 1976);

"old age (non-contributory) pension" means a pension payable under the Old Age Pensions Acts, 1908 to 1976;

"widow's (non-contributory) pension" or "orphan's (non-contributory) pension" means, as the context requires, a pension payable under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, 1935 to 1976;

"occupational injuries benefits" means benefits payable under the Act of 1966.

3. The rates of old age (non-contributory) pension are hereby varied with effect on and from the 1st day of October, 1976 by—

(a) the substitution for the rates set out in Tables A and B to subsection (2) (inserted by the Act of 1976) of section 77 of the Act of 1952 of the rates set out in the following Tables:

( b ) the increase of the sum of £1·10 referred to in paragraph (a) (ii) of subsection (2) (inserted by the Act of 1976) of section 77 of the Act of 1952 to the sum of £1·15;

( c ) the increase of the sum of 80 new pence referred to in paragraph (a) (iii) of subsection (2) (inserted by the Act of 1976) of section 77 of the Act of 1952 to the sum of 85 new pence; and

( d ) the increase of the sum of five pounds, seventy new pence (inserted by the Act of 1976) referred to in subsection (5) (inserted by the Act of 1969) of section 77 of the Act of 1952 to the sum of six pounds.

4. The rates of widows' (non-contributory) pensions are hereby varied with effect on and from the 1st day of October, 1976 and the rates of deserted wife's allowance, social assistance allowance for unmarried mothers and prisoner's wife's allowance are hereby varied with effect on and from the 30th day of September, 1976 by—

( a ) the substitution for the rates set out in Table B in subsection (1) (inserted by the Act of 1976) of section 20 of the Act of 1935 of the rates set out in the following Table:

5. The rates of orphans' (non-contributory) pensions are hereby varied with effect on and from the 1st day of October, 1976 by the substitution for the rates set out in the Table (inserted by the Act of 1976) to subsection (1) of section 25 of the Act of 1935 of the rates set out in the following Table:
